10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you will see, our chosen charity is Ataxia UK. I have been close to this charity for a little while now. Last year I raised over £11,500 for them when I rode from Lands End to John O'Groats. Why Ataxia? Well I lost both my sisters to this dreadful disorder that attacks the central nervous system and slowly renders the sufferer unable to walk or do the everyday things we take for granted like dress or feed ourselves. My sisters developed this genetic disorder in their early teens and it gradually got worse and worse over a period of years. Eventually they were both wheelchair bound and had to have constant care in a nursing home. Sadly Ataxia took them both from us in their late thirties.

So this year I'll be running the Bupa Manchester 10K with my friends an work colleagues Sheryl and Bill as well as Joanna and Tremayne. Ok it's not Lands End to John O'Groats but I'm not a runner (more of a plodder) and I've been training as hard as I can. We hope to raise £1000.00 towards this great charity and towards eventually finding a cure for this terrbile condition. Any donation however small would be very much appreciated.Thank you for taking the time to read this.
