Kilimanjaro Trek/Climb in Tanzania (9 day event) · 5 August 2015

Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. We’re striving for a cure, by revolutionising the way we treat, diagnose and prevent dementia.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Since being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease  early last year I have realised there were a lot of things ( like most people) that I kept putting off doing. Well after taking a hard look at my life and things I feel I really should have done this challenge years ago!

It's always been part of my "bucket list" to go and climb Mount Kilimanjaro, so here I am all booked and flying out on the 5th August 2015 to attempt this mammoth challenge. As I have previously climbed around 48 Munros hopefully I will complete this "challenge"

It will take 9 days to climb in total and is by no means an easy challenge. It's height is 5,895m and starts in the rainforest of Lesmosho Glades. As you can imagine it will be extremely hot during the day being in Africa, so it will be hard going. But they do say the plus side is the temperature drops dramatically at night in the two man tents and as you climb higher each day.

The final trek on the last night commences at midnight from the camp and is said to be the toughest day as there will be scree slopes and involves 1,295m of ascent and 2,145m of descent over 12-15 hours of trekking.

I have chosen to try to raise as much as I can to donate to Alzheimer's Research UK as being diagnosed with this myself I feel I would like to help with this research for the over 850,000 people living with this.

Well now down to some of the facts which donations will help in the research of this disease

£20 could fund one hour of vital research

£50 could provide access to specialist equipment for studying cells

£120 could support complex protein  analysis

£350 could pay for a genetic test to help identify risk genes

As there are around 36%of people in the UK who have a close friend or family member with this disease hopefully you will help me to raise funds for this vital research. I would really appreciate any donations as some of the  figures show any donation will really help.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully I will achieve this challenge !
