Story

In order to honor Kourtney’s 21 year battle with eating disorders I am creating this page to create awareness of how Eating disorders have the number one mortality rate of all mental health disorders and it does not discriminate.

To those people outside of Kourtney’s inner circle, her death made no sense. How could it? Academically, she graduated high School with Cum Laude and advanced placement honors.  Kourtney went on to private universities where she earned her undergraduate degrees with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics, a minor in music, and finally  her masters degree in Applied Mathematics  Professionally, Kourtney used her keen analytical skills and earned her place in high tech companies working as an engineer. It didn’t seem like she had a mental illness, after all look at all she achieved. But, eating disorders and the stigma that surrounds them are extremely isolating and very secretive.

To those family and friends that she let into her inner circle, Kourtney dealt with what we, her parents can only describe as a dark and vicious destructive mental disease. People unfamiliar with severe eating disorders cannot comprehend that it is a disease at all.  Surely it must be a life choice right?  No one with eating disorders wake up one day and say I choose this. Kourtney is not the first in our hereditary line with an eating disorder. We need more research.

Kourtney was loved by many.  Anyone who knew her or came in contact with her was impacted and touched greatly. She always put others before herself.  Kourntey was engaged to be married this year to the love of her life. Despite her illness, she  helped so many girls with ED’s by praying with them and encouraging them in recovery.  She used her faith to bring many others with her condition to Christ. There were so many of these young women that did not have insurance coverage to cover the much needed treatment and many had to create gofundme pages or just not get treatment. Kourtney would have wanted to leave a legacy to continue to help those in need and who are fighting quietly with this killer, so this page is incredibably important to continue researching eating disorders and to bring awareness  to others of what it really is.

We are committed to helping other parents and loved ones save “their” Kourtney.  Your donation today will go a long way in helping us do just that. National Eating Disorders Association is a key leader in this  and we wanted to support them by raising money as part of a recovery milestone. Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Donate' button. The more people that know about National Eating Disorders Association, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
