So close to my £500 target. Just text the code BHJS51 £5 to 70070 to donate £5 (or choose your own amount £1 - £10) and help us tame prostate cancer sooner!
My husband Kevin was 51 when finally diagnosed with prostate cancer. None of the risk factors applied - no family history, he was white, too fit and too young, so his local GP's didn't consider running the tests that could have saved him.
White men in the UK have a 1 in 8 chance of developing the disease at some point. That risk increases to 1 in 4 if you're black and it's increasingly being diagnosed in men in their 40's and 50's so collectively we need to stop thinking of it as an old man's disease and guys, please go get checked if you have any of the symptoms, or the slightest doubt.
Jeff Stelling is a very funny, watchable guy and I like to watch Sky Sports rolling football scores when he's presenting - even when the Millers are losing heavily away from home (doesn't happen often). The difference he is making to the lives of so many men by doing this challenge is infinite.
I've been involved with Prostate Cancer UK for a few years now, mostly doing bucket collections at football grounds - but I'm nobody famous. I was invited to 'be involved' on Day 4 of Jeff's marathon because it starts at New York stadium that day. Somehow I got signed up to actually walk. It's only about 26 miles but that's it, I'm committed to the cause now.
You can support me by making a small donation to this page. I promise all of it will go towards Prostate Cancer UK and the work they do in funding research, offering support and raising awareness, and none of it will go on the blister plasters and muscle heat rub I'll undoubtedly need for a fortnight after the walk.
