Aerobathon · 15 May 2011

Brigitte Trust volunteers offer a free service of emotional support and practical help at home to people and their families facing the enormous challenge of life-threatening illness. 208 families were supported last year. Please help us reach out to even more.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.  I'm taking part in an Aerobathon on 15th May in aid of the Brigitte Trust and would really appreciate it if you would sponsor me.

For 25 years the Brigitte Trust has been offering help to people in the local Surrey area suffering the effects of cancer and other late-stage illness, with a free service of emotional support and help with practical needs at home.  It is preferable for most patients to stay at home, with pets and familiar possessions around them, with family and friends nearby. With the help of The Brigitte Trust, it is often possible for a family member to stay at home for much longer.  Average length of involvement is 4 – 6 months and Bereavement support is offered for up to 12 weeks.

The Trust currently has 70 working volunteers and just over 200 families were supported last year.

Brigitte Trust volunteers offer support to the wider family too, by listening to carers and supporting them as they share feelings of sadness, regret, anger and fear for the future. The most important part of their work is often to listen, without judgment.

Monies received help in these important ways:

- £10 will help send out 4 information packs to District Nurses

- £25 pays for the crucial assessment visit to a new family by one of

their Area Organisers, who will spend time talking with the family and

listening to their needs before matching just the right volunteer to

   help them.

- £35 will support a group of Volunteers through a monthly Supervision

   meeting.

- £50 will pay half the cost of an Introductory Evening, offering potential

volunteers the chance to find out about their work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Brigitte Trust and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.
