We promote Inclusive Cycling opportunities to challenge the perceptions of disability.

Story

There are lots of ways to enjoy cycling, whether as a commute to work, a pootle at the weekend with friends and family, rushing down hillsides on mountain bikes or going on tour. The disabled people we are raising money for don't usually have those opportunities, although they can often benefit from cycling more than the rest of us - enjoying a freedom and independence that would otherwise be out of their reach but which the rest of us take for granted.

Wheels for Wellbeing, the charity we are raising money for, runs regular weekly cycle sessions for disabled people with a wide range of 3 and 4 wheeled cycles in Croydon and Lambeth. (In Lambeth, though, they are temporarily out of action until they recover from the October arson attack which burnt all their cycles.)

This year, the charity has been fortunate to have been chosen by Brockwell Lido to benefit from its annual Midwinter Swim - a dip in the pool starting at noon on Saturday December 19th. The pool isn't heated and hasn't been used since October. They don't even know what the temperature is at the moment. But a group of us (Betty Galizzi, Chris James, Philip Loy, Geraldine Mason, Janet Paske, Stevie R and Jeanette Threadgold) decided that we couldn't turn down this opportunity to raise funds for the charity. We think there's only one reason for getting in cold water in December though - if you make it worth our while. So if you dip in your pockets, we'll dip in the pool.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
