Challenges Worldwide is a social enterprise based in Edinburgh that provides a platform for people to volunteer in sub-saharan Africa. They currently operate in Zambia, Uganda and Ghana. Challenges Worldwide have a unique offering, allowing volunteers to work with small and medium size enterprises in these developing countries. The idea is that through helping businesses grow in a sustainable manor, jobs are created within the business and the supply chain which will hopefully add up over time to a significant impact on the economy and society.

At the end of February 2017, I will be working and living in Ghana for 12 weeks on the ICS Entrepreneur Challenges Worldwide programme along with other 18-25 year olds from the UK and will be joined by in-country volunteers. We will be staying in local family homes and integrating into the community as much as possible over the course of our stay. Any money raised by me goes directly to the running costs of the programme and not to my specific trip. The UK government funds 90% of the costs with the remainder raised by volunteers.
