COAST & CASTLES BIKE RIDE

COAST AND CASTLES BIKE RIDE · 15 September 2017
Our challenge for 2017 / 2018 is to complete the Coast & Castles Bike Ride:
*
Arrive in Newcastle to pick up the Hadrians Cycleway
Newcastle to Embleton - 64 miles
*
Embleton to Cockburnspath - 63 miles
*
Cockburnspath to Edinburgh - 56 miles
* Our fundraising activities began in 2013, when we decided to climb the Three Peaks of Yorkshire on Saturday 18th May 2013 in aid of raising funds to help build new classrooms and provide educational resources to the Kamunthini Primary School in Kenya.
We climbed Pen-yghent, Whernside & Ingleborough, in this order within 12 hours in torrential rain and then enjoyed a celebratory BBQ at Horton in Ribblesdale.
In June 2013, we also organised a Charity Ball at York Racecourse which was held on Saturday 8th June 2013.
We had a fantastic evening at York Racecourse with a three course dinner from award winning York Racecourse Hospitality and live music from Family Funk, a soul and funk band who performed for HRH Price Williams 21st Birthday. There was also a special auction with prizes kindly donated by the local business community.
* Our 2014 challenge was the 170 mile Coast to Coast Bike Ride from the 6th - 8th June 2014. We cycled 170 miles from Morecombe Bay in Lancashire to Bridlington in East Yorkshire in three days. We started in glorious sunshine on Friday morning, cycled along the Lune Valley and then tackled our steepest hill on the route just after Settle to complete our first 50 miles. We battled through rain and storms on Saturday and had our hardest day of 60 miles with very hilly terrain and some steep climbs and descents in the Dales and Nidderdale in very wet weather. We had a great welcome from our friends and supporters on Saturday evening in York and then off through Pocklington and across the Yorkshire Wolds to arrive in Bridlington 60 miles later on the Sunday evening. It was an emotional moment when we arrived!!
* Our 2015 challenge was a second trip up to the top of the Three Yorkshire Peaks on Saturday 30th May 2015. The weather was a slight improvement to two years earlier.
