Story

The current building for Holy Trinity Buildwas dates from 1720 and replaced a medieval church. We'll be celebrating our church tricentenary in 2020.

We wish to keep our church open for the use of the local community for future generations, as it has been at the heart of our village for centuries; and also share the heritage of our church, as it has an interesting history with close ties to Buildwas Abbey (which it used to belong to) and also to families who lived in Ironbridge and Coalbrookdale (where the Industrial Revolution started).

We need to repair the church tower, roof, gravestones and other items in the graveyard; and renovate inside. We also want to install a tea point and toilet, and a new heating system. This will cost ~£100k. We need to raise money towards these in order to secure grants. We are also using some of the money raised to make some of the more urgent repairs now.

We have therefore formed the Buildwas Community "Save our Church" Group to organise activities to raise money. In 2018, we raised £5,023. In 2019, we are aiming to raise a further £5,000. The more money we can raise, the stronger our applications will be when applying for grants.
