Byte Night London 2017 · 6 October 2017 ·

We protect and support children and young people, providing practical and emotional care and support. We ensure their voices are heard, and campaign to bring lasting improvements to their lives. Our vision is that every child and young person has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

Story

A team from FTI Consulting slept outdoors on the 6th of October, in order to raise money for Action for Children. The team was made up of David Eastwood, Natasha Sweeney, Sanjana Sha, Oliver Rake, Melanie Shim, Ed Case, David Benford, Charles Palmer, Scott Morrison, and Michael Knott, and we were also joined by Adam Maskatiya, GM of Kapersky in the UK.

The night was cold, but fortunately the rain held off until the morning. The concrete floor was uncomfortable, but after the event we were able to safely return to our homes, have a warm shower, and change our clothes: a luxury that the thousands of homeless young people in this country do not have.

We're aiming to raise £1,000 per participant: all of this money will go towards Action for Children, to help support homeless young people in the UK. Sleeping out will hopefully give us some understanding of the hardship these young people face, and the funds we raise will make a tangible difference to vulnerable young peoples' quality of life.

Further information about Action for Children and Byte Night is below:

Action for Children does what’s right, what’s needed and what works for children in the UK by supporting more than 390,000 children, young people and families each year.

Byte Night is Action for Children's biggest annual fundraiser; a national ‘sleep-out’ event. Each year, hundreds of like minded people from the technology and business arena give up their beds for one night to help change the lives of vulnerable young people. Byte Night works to support some of the 83,000 young people who are homeless in the UK every year through no fault of their own. Family breakdown, mental health issues and abuse in the home are just a few of the causes which lead to many young people becoming homeless.
