Story

Hi all,

It's Michael, George and Josh here. Thank you for taking the time to visit our page and reading about our challenge - we greatly appreciate it.

As seen below, the Michael Carrick foundation aims to provide disadvantaged youngsters with empowering opportunities delivered in safe and creative spaces. This is something, that as youngsters, we were lucky enough to receive. Therefore, it is only right that we work to provide this opportunity to people who aren't as lucky as us!

During this difficult period,  we have seen the profound generosity of the Great British public. However, many charities are still suffering from the effects of Covid-19, and this is true for the Michael Carrick foundation. Many of their pre-planned activities used for fundraising have either been cancelled or re-arranged for a later date; and therefore, they are down on much needed funds to support disadvantaged young people.

If we reach our target of £500, we will be able to pay for a community run football tournament. The purpose of this will be to bring young people together; to break down social and geographic barriers; and to encourage integration. We feel this is greatly important in light of the current global situation, ensuring that disadvantage does not create a further barrier for the mental and physical health of young people.

The very core of the Michael Carrick Foundation is to be inclusive, to empower, to create and to collaborate with young disadvantaged people in order to help them to achieve their goals. The foundation delivers fantastic opportunities in safe and creative spaces in order to inspire participants to reach their full potential. This will create a lasting legacy of encouraging young people to be the best that they can be, inspiring future generations to come.

Taking this into consideration, it seemed appropriate that we challenge ourselves mentally and physically in order to serve a greater good and support the Michael Carrick Foundation. As three, novice cyclists who are new to road biking, we have given ourselves just over one month to both train and plan for this difficult challenge.

The way of the roses (or coast to coast) is roughly a 170 mile ride (273.58km). It is worth noting that most people tend to go over this as they get lost along the way (this will definitely be us!) The challenge usually takes participants three days, with regular rest, food and hydration as well as comfy beds to sleep in. However we plan to complete this ride in a continuous cycle setting a maximum time of only 24 hours.

We thank you for reading our story, and we will keep you updated as our journey progresses. We thank you for any donations and support you make, no matter how big or how small they are. Both us, and the disadvantaged young people you will be supporting greatly appreciate this.

If you feel there are other ways you can help or support us, please get in touch with us using the following email (cycling0011@gmail.com)  or by contacting one of us individually.

Thank you,

Michael, George and Josh
