Kate's story. (13 Miles is a very long way for an old crock like me!)
My husband, Philip and I have been involved with Kenyan young people for 22 years! Philip's first trip to Kenya with the Christadelphian Bible Mission (CBM) started with a 6 week trip one summer, and he has never looked back.
Why do we love it so much? Every time I go, I am put to shame by their compassion, openness and spirituality.
It is not a case of 'just giving'! It is a case of just sharing.
We can contribute vital resources for their leaders to work together materially and spiritually, and they contribute their enthusiasm, love, and determination to do the right thing for all the young people in their care.
The Kenyan Youth Conference is just one way this is achieved. 250 young people from all over Kenya, are brought to Nairobi to share friendship and fellowship around God's word, but they also play sport, learn life skills, discuss problems with boy/girl relationships and meet young people from distant places and find they have lots in common.
This project has the added benefit of breaking down tribal barriers.
The KNYC (Kenyan National Youth Conference) was started 3 years ago by Trevor Hughes. Philip, Matt Brady and Sarah Stevenson, attending from CBM UK. The first gathering was very 'adhoc'! It was held in a college with no sleeping or cooking facilities. The food for 150 was cooked by local Kenyan Sisters, and carried to the site in the back of a van, and two classrooms were allocated for slumber. But this didn't damped the 13-25 year olds spirits.
Singing went on well into the night and the elders who accompanied them from their home towns, began to see the joy and benefits of such a gathering.
Over the last two years the conference has gone from strength to strength. We now hold it in Nairobi School, which is an ex colonial white brick building, with a large hall, classrooms, good food, hot showers, and beds! There is a large area for games in the afternoons, and even a swimming pool! All the main studies and sports were led by the young Kenyan Christadelphians, with efficient enthusiasm.
This year, December 09, DV, the local elders are running the conference without UK personnel attending, and we are confident that this will be the best yet! All we need to do is to help them do it!
It costs £25 to send one person to the youth conference. This includes travel there and back, accommodation and food for 3 days and nights.
The majority of these young people have nothing, but are the happiest, most appreciative, Godly people I know.
Please give them the chance to attend.
Thank you.

Dave Cave's message
"Hi folks - please help me to make this 2 hours, sweat and probably blood worthwhile and give generously!"
Update 15th August 2008... Only 4 weeks to go!!
Dave (speedy) Cave, has done 9.5 hilly miles in 85 mins this week, I really think I will be eating his dust, but hopefully he'll put the kettle on while he waits for me to finish, as I have done 10 miles in 1000, which makes me Plodder Lawrence, the possibility that a couple of sloth's will get there before me is high, watch out for David Attenborough everyone!
Thank you so much for your donations so far, I am quite literally gobsmacked! xxx
Update 19th August 2008
I am not sure what Dave is up to, he is keeping quiet... perhaps some serious training is going on!
My times have suffered this week, only 10.5 in 110, but running to Radcliffe on Trent and back, felt a lot further than that, I can tell you!! My 9 rotations (6min running 3min walking) hurt today, as I pushed harder than before, it must be all this fundraising pressure, but as they say, 'no pain without gain'! Perhaps you could all sponsor me NOT to run?!!!!
I cant believe the total has risen so quickly, a big big thank you has been uploaded as a video, take a look....
31st August 2008
Only two weeks to go!!!!!!
Well, I can honestly say that my marathon is now in my head, where as Dave's seems to be in his heart (well his heart rate anyway). It is hard to go out and train, because I am not pushing as hard as I was, but I still have to keep the fitness up, and the gremlins are starting again, the best one is... "What do you think you are doing, a woman of Your age!!"
But I shall beat it...
and Dave will beat me!
No, honestly I am looking forward to eating his dust....
Keep supporting us, it really helps, thank you so very much
Kate and Dave
WEDIDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dave was amazing as I knew he would be! Just under 1 hour 50!
I completed it in just under 2 hours 15!
It hurt, but when I got to half way, I realised we had only raised half the money, so I'd better keep going...
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT
YOU DON"T KNOW HOW MUCH IT MEANs!
YOU ARE BRILL
23rd October 2009
Well, we are just about to shut the page, so thank you very much to everyone who gave moral and financial support to both Dave and I.
We have been overwhelmed by your generosity, love and prayers... I am sure that is the only way we kept going.
As we were walking away from the event, exhausted, aching, hobbling alongside the trent to get home, Dave said
"What shall we do next? The three peak challenge?"
His next challenge was a swim in the Trent, I can tell you!
Good Night, God Bless.
