Story
The route taken could look the one above, but almost certainly will be different!

The four open-water swimmers, most of whom swim right throughout the year, need to swim an hour each in rotation from England across The Channel to France, a direct distance of over 20 miles.
Only one of the swimmers (Richard Knight) has done part of a Channel Relay before, but all of them know what they are taking on. Inevitably, some of it will be during night-time, whether starting from Dover Harbour or from Samphire Hoe (between Dover and Folkestone) into the dark waters of the Channel.
It was not possible to know the precise start date or time in advance as very variable factors including weather and tide always mean the actual date can be quite different, perhaps by days or weeks or more.
The team comprises Richard Knight, Jonny Edmondson, James Gwynne and Trevor Chiltern. They all are active members of South London Swimming Club, which swims throughout the year at Tooting Bec Lido and many other places (eg rivers, lakes, and seas) both in the UK and elsewhere. Once the swim starts, each swimmer has to complete the allotted swims; further changes aren't allowed.
The boat the team is swimming with is Suva, piloted by the renowned Neil Streeter, part of the Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation (CSPF). The crew and an official observer will also be on board, to make sure everything will be as it should and certify the swim.
The swim is for both CCAT and Cancer Research UK (https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising-edit/cancerresearchukandccat4 ) .
CCAT (Croydon Community Against Trafficking) has been working for over a decade against human trafficking in its various forms. CCAT's experience has helped other similar organisations in their work in their localities, too.
