Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit Christ Church Cathedral Choir's Just Giving page.

A new partnership between Christ Church Cathedral's Music Department and Barretstown Children's Charity was announced in February 2014. Our new Cathedral Girls' Choir, founded in January 2013, recently visited Barretstown, a charity devoted to serving children suffering from serious illnesses including blood disorders and cancer. Each year it costs €4.5 million to run the programmes at Barretstown. Children and families don’t pay a cent to stay at Barretstown. All their travel costs, accommodation, food, medical care and activities are provided free of charge.

The Girls' Choir and Joyce Murphy recorded a song for Barretstown called "Dream Baby Dream" which was launched by the President of Ireland earlier this year. Please download a copy of the song from iTunes to help us raise funds for Barretstown. On 2nd May 2014 the Girls’ Choir appeared in a high profile fund-raising concert, at Dublin's Olympia Theatre, which was broadcast on RTÉ1 television.

We wish to continue to raise money for Barretstown and support the outstanding work they do for sick children and their families. On 24th May 2014 Christ Church Cathedral Choir will walk the Glendalough Spinc and Glenealo Valley (White Route) in the Wicklow Mountains. The White Route is a rocky and strenuous route marked with white arrows. The trail ascends steeply up by the Poulanass Waterfall before joining a boardwalk. More than 600 wooden steps lead you to a viewing point overlooking the Upper Lake. The boardwalk skirts the top of the cliffs before descending through blanket bog and heath into the picturesque Glenealo Valley, home to a large herd of deer. A rough track then leads you back down into Glendalough Valley. The walk is a distance of 9km and takes approximately 4 hours.

We would like to thank the Dean, Chapter and Board of Christ Church Cathedral for their generous support in helping to cover our travel costs for this event.
