The Chestnut troop 1 RHA Charity row · 1 February 2010
A charity row conducted by The Chestnut Troop RHA to mark our 217th Foundation Day. The row will be from Busaco (Portugal) to Waterloo - a distance of 1516km.
The battles of Busaco and Waterloo have important historical significance for the Battery and emphasise the shared history of The Chestnut Troop and The Rifles. The Battle of Busaco took place exactly two hundred years ago this year - when The Chestnut Troop under (legendary) BC Sir Hugh Ross supported General Crauford's Light Division against Napoleon. The Battle of Waterloo, 1815, saw The Chestnut Troop (in Sir Hugh's last operational command) once again serving alongside Riflemen to defeat Napoleon's army. Two hundred years on The Chestnut Troop are supporting The Rifles once more on operations.
Everyone in the Battery from the far corners of Afghanistan will participate to help reach the target, each member of the completing a minimum of 10k with volunteers making up the remaining distance.
The event will start on foundation day 1st Feb 2010 until the target distance is reached.
The chosen charity of the battery for this event is the British Limbless Ex-Servicemens Association (BLESMA). They are an exceptionally worthy cause and any donation, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your support.
