CLEM IS GOING UP KILIMANJARO (hopefully ... ) · 30 August 2012

The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

So here I am! It is finally happening!

On 28 September 2012, I will board a flight to Nairobi, drive to Moshi and on 30 September (very early), will start my ascent towards Mount Kilimanajro. It should take 6 days.

Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa at 5895 metres. Let me be clear, other people have done it before me, so what I am about to do is not that exceptional. However, it is very special to me as I have grown up in Africa and spent my first 18 years there and the closest I've been to Kilimanjaro was when I was living in Kigali (Rwanda) where my parents, my brothers and I were forced to leave in April 1994 during the terrible Genocide. So I have actually never had the chance to approach this mountain when I was a child.

Today I produce live music, I get to work a lot with very talented African artists, a way to keep a foot where I've grown up.

Alright this is all very nice and sweet but WHY am I asking you to donate? No this is not a saving pot in case I break my leg on the way up.

The cause I am supporting through this trip (and which I have supported in the past) is Autism. With a very special attention to children, teenagers and young adults who are talented musicians and singers (a LOT of them out there). There is only one difference between an AUTIST and an ARTIST and it's just one tiny winy little letter.

I trust the National Autistic Society will continue to develop projects and schemes to allow Autistic Artists to express their creativity and I do hope I get to work on one of them in the very near future.

So here I am trying to do my bit of good, hopefully create awareness.

So please dig deep!

Thank you for reading!
