We are Versus Arthritis to defy the pain & isolation of arthritis

Story

13 members of the MRC-Arthritis Research UK Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research, not satisfied with just focusing their research on healthy ageing, are further supporting Arthritis Research UK by running the Great North Run in September.

Each member has their own reasons for running; some have first-hand experience of arthritis, some work with sufferers on a daily basis and all are involved in research into musculoskeletal ageing.

In terms of running ability we have everything from beginners to veterans, all keen to do the best they can for the sake of the charity, be this just by running all the way, or by beating their PB's.

So please dig deep to support our Researcher's on their way round and to give them the encouragement they need to perfect those training regimes and to get out pounding the streets of Nottingham, Birmingham and Derby.

The CMAR is a collaborative research venture between Birmingham and Nottingham Universities that aims to understand how ageing results in loss of musculoskeletal function and to use this knowledge to intervene and minimise age-related musculoskeletal decline and disease. The major focus of our interventions is on exercise and diet, incorporating motivational psychology research to underpin improved uptake and adherence to lifestyle changes. The Centre uses facilities on both sites to train the next generation of researchers, building capacity in this vital area and ensuring older adults are able to enjoy rather than endure old age.
