Story
My Dad and I will be taking part in the 2022 Virtual London Marathon! We will be raising money for Kintsugi Hope, a UK based charity striving to make a difference to peoples mental wellbeing.
'Kintsugi' (金継ぎ) is a Japanese technique for repairing pottery with seams of gold. The word means 'golden joinery' in Japanese. This repairs the brokenness in a way that makes the object more beautiful, and even more unique than it was prior to being broken. Instead of hiding the scars it makes a feature of them.
Kintsugi Hope want to see a world where mental and emotional health is understood and accepted, with safe and supportive communities for everyone to grow and flourish.
We first learned of Kintsugi Hope in 2017, at this moment we were going through a difficult time and we were on a journey. Kintsugi Hope reminded us that it was ok to not be ok, it was ok to feel broken and it was ok to talk about our brokenness. Mental health is more important now than ever before; it impacts every area of our lives. The importance of good mental health ripples into everything we do, think, or say.
We are raising money for Kintsugi as we both believe that the work they are doing is inspiring and crucial now more than ever to support peoples mental health and wellbeing.
