On the 8th of April my Mum (Linda) and I will be running the Paris Marathon and hoping to raise some money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Here is a little about us and the reason why we are doing this.
My Mum took up running in her late 40's as a way of keeping fit and I suspect a way of getting out of the house away from my sister and me for a few hours peace. She completed the New York and London Marathons in aid of two children's charities and subsequently retired from Marathon running saying she was too old to do another again!! I used to tease my Mum about how easy it was to run a marathon, saying I could easily do one.
Unfortunately, in Spring 2015 my Granny (Linda's Mum) was diagnosed with terminal cancer, not knowing how long she had left to live, she lived life to the full and was still the same caring and loving lady right till the end. She lost her battle with cancer in May 2017 but was supported by some wonderful Macmillan nurses throughout her illness.
After Granny died, I said well let’s do a Marathon together and raise some money for Macmillan Cancer Support. So Mum agreed to come out of retirement, we looked at different places and decided on Paris in the Spring. We thought it would be lovely to run round such a beautiful city together, not realising how hard training on winter nights in the freezing cold would be. But we are nearly there with our training and with plenty of support from family and friends. I am sure we will be alright on the day as my sister Hannah has decided to take up the role of cheerleader in Paris. Mum might be a little behind me though as there is a 33 year age gap!
I am also currently playing football for a team called 'Macmillan Samba' who were also set up with the aim of raising money for this charity, please see the link for more info https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/macmillansamba
If you could donate as much as you can to this wonderful cause we would be most grateful.
Thank you
Calum and Linda Sneddon
