Cameron's Sponsored Silence

Sponsored Silence · 18 March 2019
Myself and the university rugby club are looking to increase the awareness of Deaf Action and raise money for the young people by taking part in a 24 hour "sponsored silence". This will be no easy task and is deemed very mentally challenging but I'm sure my mum/dad/flatmates will be looking forward to the occasion.
Our aim is to raise funds for a residential week for young Deaf people 10-18 years. The week focuses on encouraging bonds together and forging deaf friendships whilst building their confidence and learning new skills in the outdoors. The camp is based in Fife at a place called “Scouts Fordell Firs”, and will begin in the first week of July. It would be the first time the group would have a chance to get away together overnight to learn skills like First Aid Training and forest craft. For some young people with social communication issues, going away from home will be quite a daunting experience. The camp offers activities and workshops in their school summer holidays and gives them the chance to spend time with other deaf kids from the East of Scotland and most importantly having fun.
