We support local NHS hospitals & community services above & beyond what the NHS provides. We're the registered charity for Northampton & Kettering General Hospitals & Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust; we exist to make things better for patients, their families & the staff who treat them

Story

Last year I ran a marathon to support some fantastic charity work being carried out at Northampton general which cares for patients, families and carers that enter the hospital who are affected with Dementia.

With the help of so many generous donations the £1800 raised went towards supplying the wards across the hospital with special care boxes full of invaluable aids to engage with the vulnerable patients during their hospital stay.

In September this year I aim to run 2 half marathons and 1 full marathon and continue my support of the 'Do it for Dementia' campaign.

September 3rd- Northampton half marathon

September 10th- Corby half marathon

September 24rd- Robin hood (Nottingham) marathon

I mentioned last year mine and my wife's family have been affected with Dementia and since last years run my mum has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's  Dementia. I have seen the devastating effects of dementia first hand, the cruel way it can transform the loved ones you hold dearest. From working in the operating theatres I am also very exposed to the reality of the high number of patients that enter the hospital with Dementia.

1/4 of hospital beds are occupied by people who are living with dementia who are over 65. Along with the cruel effects of Dementia people entering a foreign environment with other underlying issues causes further distress, anxiousness and confusion to an already vulnerable patient.

Money raised will help go towards the 'Do it for Dementia' campaign at Northampton general hospital which include reminicent pods, new chair/ beds for families and carers staying in the hospital and a new coffee drop in center for patients and families.

The aim being to maximise the individualised care and support needed for hospital patients with Dementia.

Thank you for the support

Cameron
