Story
I will be taking part (and hopefully completing!) the Cambridge half marathon to raise funds for the DBA UK charity. This small but amazing charity supports DBA patients across the UK and their families, as well as funding critical research into finding a cure.
My inspiration and motivation is my beautiful 1 year old daughter Imogen, who was diagnosed with DBA at 6 months old and will have the condition for life, as there is currently no cure. She is one of only 200 people (mostly children) in the UK and 1,500 people worldwide with DBA.
DBA is a genetic condition that can happen at random or be inherited. Patients with DBA are unable to produce red blood cells in their bone marrow correctly, so cannot carry oxygen around their bodies. This means that they require regular life saving blood transfusions and/or steroids to keep them alive. There are multiple complications and risks associated with both the condition and the treatment.
All of the money raised will go towards research into finding a cure and to support patients living with DBA.
