Camilla's Warwick in Africa Project

Warwick in Africa · 28 June 2019
Hello everyone! My name is Camilla and I’m a current undergraduate student at the University of Warwick. This summer I’m going to Agona East in Ghana for four weeks with Warwick in Africa where I will be teaching English to children in a local school. Warwick in Africa is a volunteering project organised by the university that gives the opportunity to students to go to Africa to teach English or Math to less fortunate students.
I firmly believe that volunteering is the most significant and influential way of making a difference. Volunteering missions taught me that perseverance, motivation, and commitment can change people’s day to day life. Africa has always caught my eye, from its beautiful landscape to the mesmerising people and my goal is to give these children the ability to foster from a better education. In fact, taking part in Warwick in Africa will give me the opportunity to improve the education of the students involved, even if it is only for a few weeks time. I will be able to provide them with a unique learning experience that will intellectually enrich them. As a politics and international studies student, I am extremely concerned with human rights and humanitarian issues. Therefore, I want to have the chance to fully embrace what this project has to offer and have a real impact on the students’ education and future.
Sharing knowledge is one of the primary motivations for me to go to Africa. My previous experiences in teaching English in Chinese schools also facilitated me to understand that I really enjoy working with children. I would give the best of me in order to make these student’s learning journey the best they could have. My volunteering experiences in China also helped me understand the challenges and urgency of reducing poverty. Therefore, I believe that with solid English language skills, these students will have more opportunities in realising their ambitions.
I need your help to realise my goal. I need to fundraise 1000 pounds in order to help this project come to life! It costs less than 10 £ to teach a child for a month through Warwick in Africa, thus even a little contribution will make a difference!
Thank you in advance.
