Jon's Gratitude Walk

Camino Portugues · 16 September 2017
Seven years ago my son Sam was diagnosed with kidney disease, and was told that within a few years he would need a transplant.
After screening tests it became apparent that I was the most suitable donor, and so three years ago one of my kidneys was transplanted into Sam, just at the point where he was needing dialysis.
The transplant enabled Sam to lead a full and productive life. He is able to work full time and last year bought his first property with his partner Helen. It also transformed my life, and our family.
The transplant unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge were simply fantastic with their attention, understanding and level of care throughout the year it took to complete the transplant process.I was fortunate to witness at first hand the dedication, professionalism and remarkable skills of the transplant team, and to meet many other transplant patients and their families during my stay.
This walk will raise money for the Transplant Unit's Kidney Patients Association, to help with the support they give patients and their families through the sometimes long and difficult process of obtaining and undergoing a transplant.
I will be matching donations to ensure we reach our target of £2,000, so dig into your pocket and make it count!
