Story
When someone asked me if I I would walk over hot coals for one of my children the answer was, of course yes. Little did I know that I would actually be expected to walk 20 feet over 800 degree wooden coals in aid of the charity that has done so much to help my family and specifically my little Jemima.
Jemima is nearly 7 and when she was born we were told that she had sustained some brain damage that would mean she would be significantly disabled. She has grown up to be the most vital and jolly member of the family - causing hilarity and joy everywhere she goes. She cannot sit or walk unaided and although she speaks confidently it is in her very own special language!
We heard about the Dame Vera Lynn School for parents of children with cerebral palsy while we were still living in London and it quite literally changed our lives! Once Jemima had been accepted into the school we re-located to Sussex to be as close as possible to this amazing establishment.
The school for parents is an incredible place where trained conductors of education teach us parents how to manage our child's physical and developmental needs. How to enhance their life in profound ways. Without them I can honestly say all our lives would be a lot less fulfilled.
So, to get back to the walking on hot coals - a no-brainer for me but absolutely petrifying and certainly more do-able than a marathon! On friday 29th October along with a whole gang of willing firecrackers I will be mincing, wincing, blistering and preferably flying my way over said HOT COALS - ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sponsor me so that other children and their parents can enjoy the unique and specialised service that this brilliant charity provides - Thank you
