We save hounds from the Chinese meat trade to and find them loving forever homes

Story

On Sunday 13 December myself and a group of friends are each rowing a marathon (42,195m) for selected charities.

As a Trustee of Candy Cane Rescue my chosen charity is Candy Cane, who rescue dogs, primarily greyhounds, from the meat trade in China, where they are kept in barbaric conditions before being skinned and boiled alive.

Not only affected by a decrease in donations due to the pandemic we have had 200 dogs stuck in China since December 2019, unable to fly them to their new lives in the US and UK due to Covid restrictions, which has also created additional boarding and vet costs. With travel from China now lifting I aim to raise as much money to go towards repatriating the dogs (on average transport costs incl flight volunteers and paperwork costs circa £1,000 per dog) so they can start their new lives ASAP plus create space in our China boarding kennels to rescue more dogs from the meat trade

About the charity

We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome hounds from the meat trade and other terrible situations in China and elsewhere. Once they're safe, our dogs are treated by our vets and cared for until they can fly to the UK or North America, where they are found a new home with a loving family.
