Story

Thanks for supporting our fundraising. We are inviting you to dedicate your donation to someone you know who has lived with cancer so we can remember them all during our 26 mile hike.

Here are our stories:

Emma:  2020 marks 30 years since I lost my dad, Mark Foskett, to brain cancer, and raising much needed funds for Macmillan seemed like the perfect way to honour his life. My walk is also dedicated to the memories of Elizabeth Foskett, Louise Foskett, Jim Weston and Mary Bly. Since signing up for this hike, I have begun my own battle with cancer but I'm determined to be well enough to complete this challenge in September 2020.

UPDATE: Due to Covid 19, the hike was postponed until September 4th 2021. The good news is that I am (as far as I know) currently cancer free thanks to the expertise and care of the team at Portsmouth QA hospital. The not so good news is that I am on medication for up to 10 years and a side effect is quite a lot of bone pain every day. This is going to make the hike incredibly difficult for me this year but I will do my very best to crawl (or be carried) across the finish line. I'd like to add Amy McPhee and all of my "pink sisters" on Facebook to the list of people to whom I am dedicating this fundraiser.

Abbie:   This will be my third Mighty Hike but this time cancer got personal. I first signed up to do this hike to support and motivate Emma Cavinder during her journey with cancer. I am extremely proud of how brave she has been throughout and I cannot wait to see her battle on and achieve the marathon the way she battled and beat her cancer. Since signing up to this event, cancer has sadly affected two more of my loved ones. Ryan Wearn, my cousin, has shown pure strength and determination throughout his battle and is now fighting fit and healthy - Good man!  Now we just need to send lots of love, light and strength to my longest known friend who is still fighting her ongoing battle. Macmillan offer a great support network for both the patients and the family so any contribution will be most appreciated.

Caroline:  I’m so excited to attempt and achieve my first ever Mighty Hike, especially for such a wonderful cause. The money they receive allows them to create new initiatives and provide a team of caring professionals who are readily available for those they support. Cancer has and always will be a devastating diagnosis but Macmillan are there to help with physical, emotional and financial difficulties, making the lives of those living with the disease, better.
