4 years ago my husband and I decided to start trying for a family. Turned out it wasn't simple for us. After 2 years we went to the doctor and became regulars at the fertility clinic. Tests revealed my husband had no issues, I had 3. There then followed a year of surgery and fertility medication and none of it worked. I still had to face month after month of grief when I realised I still want pregnant. After a year of various treatments it became obvious IVF was our only option. As Christians we prayed over the ethical issues and decided to go ahead. Our first appointment was March 2015. By June I was in hospital having reacted badly to the hormone stimulation medication. I have a genetic issue so our embryos had to be tested. We ended up with 4 suitable to use for transferring into my uterus. We tried with one in October which sadly didn't take and we were faced with yet another negative test. We tried again straight away and by December I had seen my first ever positive pregnancy test! However, in January 2016 our hearts were broken when the nurse scanning me told us our baby had died. I had a surgically managed miscarriage the following week. I'm running this race to help me recover physically and emotionally from all this trauma. I've always wanted to be Mum and we'll try again in June. Infertility has shaped my life for the past four years and will continue to do so. I want to use this run to raise money for infertility network UK to help them support more couples through this traumatic experience.
