British 10K London Run 2012 · 8 July 2012 ·

The Bhopal Medical Appeal funds two clinics giving free treatment to survivors of the 1984 Bhopal Disaster (the World’s worst industrial disaster). It also treats thousands of people who are being slowly poisoned by drinking water contaminated with chemicals never cleared-up from the disaster site.

Story

Hello!

Thanks for visiting our Just Giving page, as you know we are fundraising for a exceptionally special charity, which provides much needed care and help for those affected by the Bhopal disaster.

We are running the British 10K Run on July 8.  We decided to do this run, whilst drunk in the pub in January – when July seemed a very long way off!!  Anyhow we have trained through the rain and the cold, even Max (check out the sweatbands!) has joined our training sessions.

Please help us achieve our £500 target, and for more about Bhopal please read on or visit www.bhopal.org

Why help?

The world’s worst industrial disaster took place in Bhopal, Central India, on December 2nd 1984 as a Union Carbide pesticide plant leaked tons of toxic gas across this populous city. 8,000 people died in the immediate aftermath and the death toll now stands at over 25,000.

The pesticide plant has never been cleaned up and, as a result, subsequent generations are being poisoned. Toxic chemicals, from the same factory, are now found in the wells and standpipes of thousands of poor families who have no other reliable source of drinking water.

The chemicals in this water attack the body’s organs, they are carcinogenic, and they cause birth defects.

The Bhopal Medical Appeal funds two clinics that are the only places to offer free, first class healthcare to the 120,000 survivors, who are suffering chronic illness, and to those affected by water poisoning.

These people need your support.
