Story
Thank you lovely people for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking part in my first Sprint Triathlon to raise money for Cancer Research UK in memory of two special people. Firstly, my lovely grandad, Albert Wilkinson, who lost his battle with cancer on 15 November 2005, and secondly, for a wonderful lady, Norma Connett, who lost her battle with cancer on 31 March 2009.
In the UK, more than one in three people will develop cancer at some point in their lives. Every year, around 309,500 people are diagnosed with the disease.
Unfortunately, too many people I know have lost family members to cancer. However, I am also happy to know people who have received treatment and survived the disease. This is what we want to hear more of - people surviving cancer. Cancer Research UK undertakes life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. By sponsoring me, we can help try and beat cancer.
The event takes place on 29 September 2013. This will be 11 months after having my second child. Before I started training a few months ago, my swimming history consisted of swimming breast stroke (very slowly!) for about 20 minutes once every few weeks whilst being pregnant. I had no real cycling experience since completing my cycling proficiency at Primary School. My only saving grace was that I had done a bit of running during my adult life. So I think it is fair to say this event will be a real challenge for me and my body!
I would really appreciate it if you could sponsor me (and if you do I promise to show you an 'after' picture and you can have a real laugh at the state I finish in!). Every little counts, so please just give what you can.
