Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Right then!  The date is set, the airfield is set, I’m not quite so set. Yet!  On Saturday 19th March I will be jumping out of an aeroplane at 10,000 feet at Honiton Airfield in Devon and falling to the ground at 120 mph.  The reason I’m doing it is because for the past year my dad has been battling with Multiple Myeloma Cancer.  It is a cancer that spreads through the blood stream attacking the body’s bone marrow.   Until last March I’d never even heard of it and took life and my parents very much for granted.  Needless to day the past 12 months has been a huge learning experience not just for my Dad but also myself.  Seeing my own Dad go through intensive treatments of chemotherapy and radiotherapy has not only reinforced to me that he is the strongest man I know, it has also opened my eyes to the incredible work that is continuously being carried out by medical staff across the world to find new ways to help cure or keep this horrible illness of all forms in remission.

Now, you’re probably thinking that EVERYONE does parachute jumps when they want to raise money for charity.  What am I doing that’s any different?  Let me tell you.  When I was 9 my brother put me on top of a stepladder.  I cried for half an hour until I was picked up and put back down.  I AM FRIGGIN' PETRIFIED!  I kind of figured that for the past 26 years of my life my Dad has always gone out of his way to do things he hasn’t necessarily wanted to do for my brothers and me.  He has always been there for all of us because he is our Dad.  For this I love him.  By doing something out of my comfort zone and that I don’t normally have a keen desire to do I feel like I’m doing my little bit to say thank you.

The amount of money I’m trying to raise for the jump is £300.  If I don’t raise all of this I will foot the bill myself.  Money raised will be going to Myeloma UK, the charity that is continuously helping develop new treatments for the Illness and support for patients and their families.  You can find more information about them at www.myeloma.org.uk.  Any money raised after this point will be going to ward 9 & The Beacon Centre at Musgrove General Hospital in Somerset who have given my Dad fantastic support and care since being diagnosed.

If you would like to sponsor me I would love you forever and ever and ever and ever and ever.  I know times are hard right now so without sounding like I work as a tannoy announcer for Tesco, ‘’every little helps!’’   £1.00, £5.00 or 20p, it will all be gratefully received.

My Dad is not yet in the clear, he continues to battle through.  I do know however that I would bet my life that if there is anyone in the world that can beat this … it is him!

THANK YOU!!
