It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. Together we’ll make that possible.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit here :-)

My sister-in-law Kim Hopper died from this terrible disease just before last Christmas, having been diagnosed only one month before. The speed in which the cancer overcame her was a shock to all the family and devastating for my brother.

I am raising money for the charity Pancreatic Cancer UK who campaign for better care, treatment and research, and for pancreatic cancer to have the recognition it needs.  People and their families should be more aware of its symptoms before they become untreatable.

Like many of us, Kim had back pain which she was getting treated.  It was easing, when suddenly the pain transferred to her abdomen and so she sought her doctor.  A scan showed that cancer had spread out from her Pancreas and was now untreatable.  She started palliative care and making the best use of her remaining days...

Kim was 61 years old and had just retired.  She was making plans to go travelling and enjoy her retirement with my brother and her family.  If she'd been aware of what her symptoms might be saying, then perhaps early treatment could have helped her.

7 of the 9 Trustees for Pancreatic Cancer UK are either survivors or have lost a close family member to this disease.  Sadly the mortality rate from this cancer has hardly improved during the last 40 years.  I believe raising money for this charity provides a worthwhile and lasting legacy for Kim.

I’m training hard and hope to complete this half-marathon, not just in memory of Kim but for all those affected by this terrible disease.  Please run with me and help raise £1000.00.
