I very much hope that
you will support me in my efforts to raise £5,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care
in a riding expedition over 150 kilometres in Jordan in October/November. I
am riding with Richard who as you may know, is not
a natural horseman, and so as well as managing my own horse I will probably end
up having to look after his as well! One way or other it will be a memorable
experience but a tribute to the very special nurses at Marie Curie.
Earlier
this year my father-in-law died, fortunately quite quickly, after a rapid
decline from cancer. It was a stressful time for Richard’s family and much of
the burden fell on Richard’s elderly mother and sister to manage the day to day
tasks of looking after him. They just about coped; but we all realised how
lucky we were to have been able to provide this care from within the family,
compared to so many who are unable.
Marie
Curie is a remarkable organisation which can become the most important part of
a family’s life almost overnight. Their highly trained nurses provide the practical
and physical care that becomes so important at the end of a life and help the
family cope with the growing reality of what is happening to a loved one.
I would
be hugely grateful for any support you can give me.
