Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Carole Spackman donated a selection of her ceramic work towards the Warwick in Africa project.   An exhibition of this work was displayed and for sale inside the Llanddeusant Church and at Llandovery College.   All proceeds from this and donations on-line have gone towards the project.

The University of Warwick in Africa project is now at The University of Ghana, Accra.  Four ex-graduate volunteers, including Carole, are discussing teaching methods with Ghanaian teachers of Maths and English.  We have just completed our first week here, with 73 teachers attending.  These teachers are dedicated and have given up a week of their 4 week summer holiday to sttend the course.

Carole, a professional potter and teacher from Llandovery College is looking at Pythagoras, algebraic expressions and multiples, factors and primes.  Teaching mixed ability classes of around 40 students, but often up to 70, with minimal equipment and resources is the daily challenge of these Ghanaian teachers.  The aim is to enrich the teaching methods of these teachers so that ultimately the students’ level of achievement in mathematics will be raised.

The Warwick in Africa project is wholly funded by donations.  The cost to send one teacher is £2,500 and Carole is raising funds towards this.  Contributions, large or small, will be helpful.

You can donate on-line.  Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Warwick in Africa project and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for Warwick in Africa.

So please dig deep and donate now or many thanks to those who have given so generously.
