Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Andrew is not expecting any of you to buy him a birthday gift, after all he has just about everything he wants and needs!

However, if you'd like to, he would ask you to gift a small donation to the Wildlife Alliance, an international non-profit wildlife and forest conservation organisation, with current programmes and partnerships in Cambodia.

One of the main objectives of the Wildlife Alliance is to protect the Cardamom Forest, one of Asia's last great rainforests.  The forest covers 1.4m hectares and is home to many endangered species including, musk deer, pangolins, tigers, asian clouded leopards, monitor lizards, malayan sun bears to name but few.  All of these animals are hunted and captured on a daily basis to supply the demands of an Asian market.  In addition, the Cardamom Forest is subjected to deforestation due to illegal logging and intentional burning of wooded areas.  The work carried out by W.A. is both relentless and very dangerous.  Often rangers will work 48 hour shifts without sleep to protect this last great rainforest.  All donations will be used directly to fund their wildlife rescue centre (Phnom Tamao Sanctuary) where rescued animals are taken with a view to future release into the wild.  Sadly, some animals are so badly injured or traumatised that they can not be re-released and therefore will spend their lives being cared at the sanctuary by volunteers and keepers.

The Wildlife Alliance is a cause close to both Andrew's and my heart, not only because our son, Andy Ball works there, but also because the organisation has sought to highlight the dangers our future generation will face from pandemics if the illegal trafficking of wildlife isn't prevented.  Their #stopeatingwildlifecampaign directly focussed on the illegal capture and consumption of the pangolin, an endangered species which has been directly linked to the spread of Covid 19.
