I have decided to volunteer for one year in Columbia for ICYE! Charity work is something that I have been passionate about for a long time so I jumped at the opportunity to volunteer abroad for 12 months in Colombia with disadvantaged people! I will be leaving on 19th August 2012 :)

However the charity can't afford to send volunteers abroad so each volunteer must fundraise for their places. The fee covers my accomodation, food, flights, visa and travel to and from work for 12 months. So I have until August to raise £4295 which is going to be huge task and I need your help to get there!

I will be doing a range of things to raise the funds;

1. Firstly I am asking for donations to my Just Giving page rather than birthday gifts to celebrate my 30th birthday on 24th June!

2. Also I have decided to take part in a skydive-this is by far the biggest challenge I'll ever do as I am scared of heights and can barely stand to go on the rollercoasters at Chessington!

3. I will also be holding a fundraising event in August-details to follow!

 

My volunteer year involve working on one of three community projects. I will be working 40 hours a week while I am there.

The first project is working with children and teenagers that have been abused and the project offers a safe place for these children to live away from the threat of drugs and prostitution.

The second project is aimed at working with women in Colombia and empowering them with relevant skills to improve their daily lives,

The final project is working with homeless people to provide a soup kitchen, as well as providing health and education to young girls who are living in risk situations.
