Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My beautiful sister was born in1981 with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. She suffered throughout her short life. At the time she was born, little was known about this condition. Becky spent most of her first year in hospital. She was constantly going into adrenal crisis, which would mean she might go into a coma or have seizures. Most of the time we were told she might not make it. Our family really did not have too much information on signs of when she was getting seriously ill.

She was an amazing, child happy, always smiling, a black belt in karate by age seven, but throughout the years spending long periods of time in hospital. By her teenage years, Becky really struggled with  CAH, the issues she had with sexuality, weight gains and losses due to the steroids she had to take. To top it all off, she was dyslexic too. With all of this, she struggled to cope. She described herself as a guinea pig, as this problem was quite rare and the medical profession did not know really how to keep it under control. She had her adrenal glands removed in her early twenties; the doctors hoped it would help, but it actually made the situation much worse. But she fought all the way, always smiling, with that silly sense of humour of hers and a great laugh.  She managed to live on her own despite all the challenges life threw at her. She was a loyal friend and an amazing sister and daughter. When I was abroad, even though we were so far apart in miles we could be on skype four or five times a day, chatting about life.

But the dark side was that she was air-lifted to hospital five or six times a year, always close to not making it. Months upon months of vomiting and sickness, taking about forty tablets a day in the vane hope of keeping her illness at bay. Depression set in, her words: "I have no life and no hope of the situation changing", but she fought it tooth and nail.

She passed away on 24th January 2013. This was the worst day in my and my family's life. There is not a day goes by that Becky does not come into my head. The tears that I shed are slowly turning into smiles, but I miss her more than anything in the world.

By doing this ride to raise money for Living with CAH, I hope the burden of this terrible condition can be eased and people with it feel less alone. This amazing organisation help CAH sufferers and their families to find help, to ease the suffering and with funds going into research into CAH

I hope you, my friends that I have known all over the world, can help me.  I am cycling from Wokingham to Paris 210 mile starting 9th July 2017 to raise money for this group. I know times are hard but please could you dig deep and sponsor me for this ride. I would love to raise £2000 for this group if not a lot more.  Any money donated will go straight to the CAH support group. No money will come to me at all.
