X-Q Pride celebration

X-Q Pride · 30 June 2021
Last week during our Prima troupe class we had an open and honest talk and discussed what it is like to be a teenager in a world so different to the one I grew up in. There is now more awareness of diversity but there is not always acceptance and with social media there are a lot of people who use the keyboard as a weapon to troll those who just want to be themselves and are proud to do so.
The dancers made a decision to celebrate diversity particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. Two of our dancers were brave enough to share their own experiences with us and therefore we are going to show how proud of them we are and all other young people going through similar journeys.
We are holding a Pride Celebration tomorrow to raise money for the charity Diversity Role Models which actively seeks to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying in UK schools. They stop bullying before it occurs by educating young people about differences and challenging stereotypes and addressing the misuse of language. Their workshops feature positive LGBT or straight ally role models who speak directly to young people about their experiences. To date they have worked with over 220 schools and reached over 50,000 young peole across the UK.
