Cassia's skydive for Sophie

Cassia's skydive for Sophie · 13 August 2011
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you will already know, I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa when I was 11. After a long bought in a London hospital I was discharged home. At 16 I relapsed severely and was admitted into a specialist eating disorder unit in Stafford. This is where I met my best friend Sophie. Sophie was bright, bubbly and always greeted me with a smile and a hug. Sophie and I lived together in hospital for 18 months and during that time became very close and 'joined at the hip'. We were both discharged home at a similar time and kept in regular contact; we missed eachother a lot as we lived so far away. Sophie began struggling again. I didn't realise how much. On 21st December 2006 Sophie lost her life to anorexia. She was and always will be my best friend, she has given me the strength to fight against anorexia and succeed in life. I am now in recovery and doing very well, I am almost qualified as an Occupational Therapist and live with my boyfriend Alex.
I am doing this skydive (eeek!) to raise more awareness about how serious anorexia is, and the detrimental effects it can bring. I want people to realise that anorexia is not just a 'diet', a 'slimmers illness' or 'lifestyle choice', it is a tough and controlling psychological battle that needs close monitoring and a solid support network. I also want those with anorexia to realise that the illness can be beaten and the daily torture can be overcome.
The money raised will contribute to the skydive itself and to Beat. It will help the charity to continue to provide support and information to people affected by eating disorders. Beat have given tremendous support and guidance to both myself and my family during the times where we really needed some help.
Please sponsor me for my skydive, it would mean so much to me and many others affected by anorexia and other eating disorders.
