I am embarking on the Great North Run to raise funds for Maggies Centres in memory of my dear aunty, Pat Conaty.
Maggie's provides a safe haven for people in the midst of tough questions, exhausting treatment and difficult emotions that cancer brings. The invaluable support of Team Maggie's will ensure that Maggie’s is able to provide practical, emotional and social support to any family affected by cancer. Built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals, Maggie's Centres are places with professional staff on hand to offer a huge range of support personlised for peoples needs. My aunty Pat suffered from lung cancer and brain cancer. She was a strong, inspiring, and incredibly positive individual. All championed with the care of Maggie's Centre. Maggie's in Newcastle's Freeman Hospital provided Pat with devoted support throughout her 4.5 year journey of cancer before her passing in October 2018. By raising funds for Maggie's, my family and I hope to help them continue their brilliant, neccessary support to others going through the difficulties of cancer.
As "non-runners", my family and I are going to push against all our physical abilities, ailments and mental reluctance in order to complete the Great North Run! One year after Pat's passing, we want to raise as much money as possible for the amazing Maggie's Centre in Newcastle. Myself, Mum, Andrew (brother) and Abi (brother’s girlfriend) are running as a team on September 8th 2019 in Newcastle. Check out our team page: https://www.justgiving.com/teams/PatConatyFamily
