Story
5 years ago, I didn't have enough energy to walk 10 yards never mind 10K.
My life changed in a split second after having a STROKE. I lost power in my left side, both hand and leg. I lost the ability to understand basic emotions, processing and problem solving.
I spent the next few years retraining myself to build myself up to not be what 'I was before' the Stroke, but 'better than before'. I still get some left side weakness and I learn to manage it.
Am I upset at having had a Stroke? No way! I was later diagnosed with having a Sticky Blood Disorder, called Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS). With a mix of sheer determination, solid support from some beautiful family and friends, medication, sticky back plastic and an adult present, I have not only survived but thrived.
Obviously this charity means a lot to me. They are a very small charity who require our support. This is a relatively new disorder so it doesnt have large financial backing but it packs a punch in the work it does to raise awareness. This is not only the with the public but also raising awareness with the doctors who work with us to identify these sort of underlying issues.
I have never had the desire to even contemplate doing an organised run but that was my goal for 2018. It was meant to be a 5K, but I thought, I may aswell go for it and go for the 10K. It means longer on the course to spread the message that there is hope for those who have exprienced an event like having a clot. For every step I take, it helps my blood keep moving round my body. I would love if you could support me by donating something large or small, depending on your wallet size :)
