Dear Friends and Hopefully Lots of Friends-of-Friends too!
Thank you for taking a moment to look at this page and consider making a donation to PSPA - a national charity providing support and information to people living with PSP and CBD while funding research into treatments and ultimately a cure.
As some of you already know, my mum is suffering from a condition known as PSP. No, she is not morphing into a Sony Play Station as some of your children probably are right now, it actually stands for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy . PSP is a neurological condition caused by the premature loss of nerve cells in certain parts of the brain. Over a period of time, this leads to difficulties with balance, movement, vision, speech, and swallowing which get worse over time. Watching my mum decline rapidly without any chance of a cure or even more than palliative treatment is heartbreaking. More research is needed to stop this disease from robbing others of their basic functions, dignity and their lives.
Due to the current situation with the Coronavirus, like everyone else, my parents are in lockdown and self-isolating. My dad who is also disabled is caring for mum along with a full time live in carer whom they could not survive without. They are staying in their house in Newcastle, 276 miles from our home in London. I have recently taken up running as my one hour of permitted exercise per day and thought I would challenge myself to run 276 miles in order to raise money for PSPA. I'm going to start tomorrow, 1st May and my goal is to complete by mum's birthday which is 29th July. It might be a bit ambitious for someone who has tried to do Couch to 5K twice and failed but I'm going to give it a go!
