Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Ever had that feeling of trundling along doing the 'same-old, same-old', mesmerised into believing there won't be anything more in your life until you retire? No? Good for you! But I got it big time a couple of years back ..... and the the way out of it was to pull in the financial belt, take a year's sabbatical leave from my Further Education job teaching sums and science, and I went back to university, the University of Strathclyde to be precise, to work towards their Post Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling. A life-changing haul later and I'm just on the cusp of finishing. I wanted to celebrate my achievement in some sort of style .... so why not my first half-marathon in over fifteen years!
A fundamental part of my training has been hands-on counselling practice, and I'm truly indebted to an organisation called CRISIS Counselling which gave me the opportunity to earn my wings as a Person-Centred Counsellor. What's more Jean, Fiona, Alison and several of the Volunteer Counsellors were sterling in giving me support and mentoring during a patch when things got really tough for me. I so want to give back to them, to do something that will support CRISIS Counselling as I was supported. And what does a charity that operates on the most frugal of shoe-strings most need?
MONEY!!
CRISIS Counselling can tell you better than I can what they do to help people in psychological distress to find ways back to functioning lives (http://www.crisiscounselling.co.uk ). I'd like, though, to highlight the work done with children and vulnerable young people who may have suffered abuse, bullying, bereavement, physical illness or other traumas; CRISIS Counselling also provides psychologcal services to COMBAT STRESS, the charity that works with traumatised Armed Services personnel at various locations, including at Holybush House near Ayr.
So this is the bit I'm doing.......
On March 7th 2010, to coincide (more or less) with me completing my Diploma in Counselling I'm going to be pounding the streets of Bath, putting everything I can into completing the Bath Half Marathon (that's 13.2 miles).
And what I'm asking YOU to do is .......
Sponsor me for as much as you can part with to help me reach my target of at least £1000.00, money that wll be put to excellent use in making sure a high quality counselling service is available to people in distress, when they need it .....and that means now. Thank you, so much.
