Story
In June 2014 Dad was diagnosed with motor neurone disease and prior to this he lost a very close friend Ian Montgomery through MND. MND is a cruel and progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. It affects people in different ways and at different rates. At present there is currently no cure for MND, although symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life. We must say the MND support team are absolutely fantastic.
Dad is a generous, kind loving man who loves being surrounded by people. This is what keeps him going. He loves a party, a joke and a good tease, and to spoil us all rotten. He works hard, plays hard and is loved very much by all his family and many many friends and colleagues. Raising funds for MND started with 'Cycling for Bryan' last year and cousin Stuart's row the Amazon. As a family it has been tough to come to terms with his diagnosis and to watch him deteriorate. Being a part of the fundraising activities has kept us all focused, dad included. It is our way of helping a situation where we feel helpless. So keep donating, keep dad busy by visiting and and let's fight this together. I will continue to organise an annual event raising much needed funds until we find a cure for this horrendous disease.
