Aspire Channel Relay Swim 2018 · 27 July 2018

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

I have always wanted to swim the channel and discovering it could be done as part of a relay team has made a dream a reality.  Reaching a significant birthday has further inspired the challenge of not only completing the swim but raising as much money as I can for Aspire.  I am training at least three times a week in different environments and with different groups. I think my biggest challenge will be the cold!  Family and friends know I never go anywhere without thermals and part of my training is to toughen up,  giving up electric blankets, heated seats and starting to have cold baths!  Jelly fish, shipping and weather are three  other hurdles to overcome.  I'm looking forward to meeting my team and doing some open water swimming soon!

Please be as generous as you can.  Every 8 hours someone is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. Aspire provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury supporting them from injury to independence.
