We support children to talk and understand words

Story

As lots of you know, William has a severe expressive speech disorder. He's a very communicative, intelligent, determined and fun little boy who has 9 words at almost 4years old, signs at the rate of knots and is so desperate to tell us his stories and words. It's like a motor disconnect; he thinks his words but cannot produce them. He has been working on blending the sounds of 'm' and 'ee' to make 'me' for months and he works so hard at practising his sounds. Follow the blog 'Lost For Words' on Facebook for more information, videos and personal updates.

More than half the children in some parts of the UK start school with a communication difficulty and are likely to struggle with talking, understanding, learning and making friends. I CAN is a UK charity supporting children so that they have the communication skills they need. Its mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding. Thank you for supporting that mission today!

We will be doing lots of fund raising events and training between now and June 2017 when we do The Three Peaks!

About the charity

At least 1.9 million children in the UK are struggling to talk and understand words.  We give children and young people the skills they need so they aren't left behind. We do this by creating tools for schools and nurseries, giving advice and guidance to families and putting pressure on politicians.
