Well, here I am again, despite saying I would NEVER run a marathon again!!
So why? Why am I putting myself through another 4 months of winter training, emotional and physical stress when I’ve already completed the London Marathon?
The Muir Maxwell Trust is the only reason why! For 10 years myself and the rest of the Jack’s Belles have been raising money for this very special charity. Of the 100,000 pounds we have raised, over 80,000 of that has been for the MMT to support the fantastic work they do for families with children with epilepsy like Jack. Muir Maxwell has Dravet Syndrome like Jack, so Ann and her family have encountered many of the same challenges and stresses that we have. She knows first hand what support families like ours need and I know that every penny we have raised has gone to help so many families.
MMT get one place for the marathon every 5 years so it felt right for me to take up that challenge one more time so I can cross that finishing line for Jack, for Muir and for every other child who lives daily with the horrendous battle that Epilepsy is. As I am writing this I am sat in the hospital with Jack who has had 12 seizures in 12 hours. To watch your child convulsing over and over again feeling helpless and at a loss of how to make it better is something I will never get used to. He is the true hero, I am just taking my strength from him and that will get me through this journey.
My sister Jo has decided that once was definitely enough for her, but fortunately for me one of the other Belles, my lovely friend Sarah, has managed to secure a charity place so we will both be on the start line and sharing the marathon journey together.
I am immensely proud to be running for the Muir Maxwell Trust and appreciate every penny that is donated - thank you X
