The Lahna Beatty Appeal - Charity registration number 1051543

Lahna was a healthy little girl, born 6 weeks before my first son Ollie. Natasha, her Mum, and I went to aqua-natal together throughout our pregnancies became good friends and spent lots of time together, swimming and playing after our babies were born. I worked with Lance, Lahna’s Dad, another physiotherapist. On the 5th of May 2009 we took the babies swimming together. On 7 May 2009 Lahna suddenly passed away, aged nearly 6 months. The phone call from Nat on the morning that Lahna died is one I will never forget.

In her memory Natasha and Lance launched the Lahna Appeal in conjunction with Southampton Hospital Charity.

The Lahna Appeal at the Southampton General and Princess Anne Hospitals raises funds for vital equipment, to give continued support to families, but most of all to assist in the care of sick babies and children.

Lahna died after developing two common viruses – which led to the very rare and serious complication of viral myocarditus which caused her heart to fail.

Donations have so far enabled the purchase of a heart probe for the Paediatric Cardiology Unit and two Otoscope machines for A&E at Southampton General Hospital; an underwater heart monitor and a water cooler for labouring mums at Ashurst Birthing Centre and birthing equipment for Princess Anne Hospital. Lahna has a pool birthing room dedicated in her name  at the Princess Anne Hospital. 

The appeal is looking to continue to help other sick babies and children and purchase further equipment and services which will keep Lahna’s memory alive and bring some purpose to her short life.
