Story
After two and a half years of anticipation, and two postponements, I am very excited, finally, to find myself going on a nine day trek in the Himalayan Mountains, in Nepal, during the Easter holidays in April! I will be trekking from Pokhara to Poon Hill, which at a height of 3210m above sea level, will be the highest altitude on the trek. I will walk anything from 6km to 13km in a day. I have barely seen, never mind climbed, a mountain, or even a hill, for over two years, living, as I do, in flat Cambridgeshire, so there is going to be some training in earnest going on over the next three months! I will be totally funding myself for this once in a lifetime experience but am hoping to raise lots of money for the charity, OCD Action.
When I saw this trip advertised I was not only struck by the idea of finally fulfilling my dream of trekking in the Himalayas, but more importantly by the fact that I could fundraise for my choice of mental health charity. I immediately knew that I wanted to raise funds for OCD Action.
OCD is a much misunderstood disorder, which many people believe is just a quirky and funny little problem. In fact it has the power to utterly take over and ruin lives. For too long, some close members of my family have been caught in its iron grip and we have experienced, first hand, its cruel and sly ability to dominate everything that is dear to us.
I hope you will be able to help me reach or even surpass my target of £500.
