Did you know that in the UK 9 women are diagnosed with cervical
cancer every day and two of these women end up losing their lives to the disease?
In Scotland alone during last 10 years the incident rate increased by nearly 20% and became the most common cancer in women under the age of 35. According to Cancer Research UK the highest incident rates of cervical cancer is between the age of 25 and 29 where ¼ women in this age group are not attending their smear test. By attending regular smear tests which can detect early cell changes, you can prevent the development and progression of cervical cancer by getting earlier treatment. Smear tests can be booked with our nearest GP practice and the test takes less than 5 minutes. These 5 minutes can save you and your family from being impacted by cancer. Cervical cancer is not impacting anonymous women... this can be your mother, sister, partner, daughter.
On Saturday 25th May I will be raising awareness of this horrible disease by running the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 10k race. I hate running but I believe that this is a great opportunity to celebrate life and raise awareness about cervical cancer.
Please help me raise money for cancer awareness by donating
to my page for Cancer Research UK.
But most importantly, please ask the women in your life to attend regular smear test appointment. This can save their lives.
